Monday was our first day off and it was one of my favorite days because I got to swim in the ocean!! I brought an underwater camera that I borrowed from a sibling for this exact reason on this trip. It was more amazing than I have the words to describe 😀 From the snack bar, it was so cool to look towards the beach and see grass umbrellas shading over numerous lounge chairs, and once you walk past those….. the endless ocean. Anyone who’s known me for a long time could guess that this was absolute Heaven for me; the water a bright cyan/turquoise color where it met the the blue sky and beaming sun with 30+ degree rays. I couldn’t stop smiling, swimming or getting footage of the beauty I was surrounded by 🙂 I kept pretty close to the beach and didn’t go out too far so I didn’t see any coral except for shells scattered about in the sand underwater. That mi amigos, is how I got burnt :p “See the line where the sky meets the sea, it calls me!” – Moana
I loved how close the beach was to the resort, especially the snack bar (can you tell yet that I love food??). I cannot tell you how beautiful the beach was. When we got to the resort Friday night, there wasn’t much to see because it was dark out. A few of us went to the snack bar that evening to hangout, talk and relax which was nice. I was already excited for Saturday because then I could see what Cuba looked like during the day and see the ocean 😀 :D!!
After the beach, I went to the lobby with the other girls and got to swim in the infinity pool and talk with the couple who took our team to Cuba, as well as 2 pastors that traveled there with us. I don’t think I’ve ever been in an infinity pool before, and my it was amazing! From a certain point looking towards the ocean from the deck or the pool, it looked like the pool was part of the ocean. I could see 3 different shades of blue: the pool water, the light blue from the shore at the beach and the dark blue where it was much deeper. It was a sight alright 🙂
At one point during the day, us dancers had a photo shoot in our dance outfits on a hill just beside the resort. The ocean was our background as the hot, hot sun shone down on us and our sun burnt faces and shoulders – I didn’t have to wear blush that day lol! Ah, it was so perfect :’) I got one of the other dancers to use my camera to do a mini photo shoot of me in my dance outfit as the others were getting their pictures taken. I felt like such an island girl posing like a Polynesian dancer, looking out onto the ocean with the sun high in the sky. It was awesome 😀
There was a buffet place at the resort that served food for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday that had a pretty big selection of foods (t’was pretty grand!). One of the girls and I went to the buffet area where we met up with some of the others. The strangest thing that happened there while we ate was a guy who must’ve painted himself head to toe (or had someone do it) to look like a statue. It was creeping me out because he very slowly just walked around the tables in the area, occasionally pretending to do something funny to someone or photobomb pictures.
Like I said, Monday was a day off, so everyone kinda did their own thing, went to the snack bar, swam in the pool and the ocean and just hung out with each other. I was pretty excited for Tuesday… Old Havana!! Stay tuned 🙂
